Throwing caution to the wind...As one does...

The weather has finally cleared up...
and Spring is just
gorgeous!!!

Granny Chevron Blanket...

Lots of lovely green grass
and lots of flowers coming out..

Granny Chevron Blanket...

Time to shake out the cobwebs...
and get motivated..

Granny Chevron Blanket...

and there is nothing nicer than some "Lollie Pop" colours
in a Granny Chevron Blanket to do it...

This one is available in my etsy shop...

Over the holiday break I had this sweet idea
that I needed to have a change...
As one does...
and threw all caution to the wind
and did the
unthinkable...

Yes I got an 80's Perm!!!

I hear you all shriek in horror...
But you see I didn't have Internet access at the time...
I didn't have my dear friends to look at me in disgust...
No... I had a cold stark apartment, days of rain, and 3 males all telling me
"that would be lovely"...(of course they just said this to shut me up)...

Now I could just tell you I had a lovely breezy Body Wave...
The one that the lovely models in magazines have...
You know the ones...
with the fan blowing softly in their face making them look
bubbly and bouncy...

But in all reality...It isn't!!!
It is what it is...
An 80's frizz Perm...

The sort that is dry and harsh...
The sort that you need to add a huge blob of mouse into it to get any curl definition...
The sort that when you wake up in the morning you scare small dogs and children...
The sort that you really want to tie up and wrap with several bandanna's and hope for the best...

Now if I was at home I would have searched through and found pictures of myself
back in the 80's
and
"snapped" myself back to reality...

But that didn't happen...
Oh well...
Such is life...

Just as well it will grow out or drop out...

Just lucky my husband DID hear me when I said
"Wouldn't it be lovely if I had dreadlocks again"
his reply was differently not
"That would be lovely dear"...

Now I must track down those pics...
Just in case
I do need a reality check...

an 80's perm - so, so funny - it made me smile. In my previous life I fell for the trap three times and this brings back the memories of how hard it was to keep - but a little bit of me is thinking oooo a perm - go on be brave, how more wonderfully retro can you get!! So much more fun than hair that had been ironed to death :)

Yey for the perm! I laughed out loud when I read that, as I myself had a perm only a few months back. I was a friends 'hair model' at her hairdressing tafe course and she absolutely begged me. Buy plenty of treatments, mousse up and enjoy I say!! xx
ps. mine has pretty much well dropped out now...thankfully.
pps. Your blanket is beautiful.xx

Gorgeous colours in that blanket.
I'm thinking a perm would be much better than my current 'Do' which would probably look wonderful on someone 30yrs younger and with a lot less volume!
Enjoy the change.

Great, sunny, spring blanket. And lol on the perm - I applaud your hair courage. I've never had one ... and I'm definitely not planning on it anytime soon. :)

I totally loved having my hair permed back in the 90's! So much easier to fix...just shake & go, yeah. It made my course/thick hair feel so soft. My hair has always been long & that hair dresser that did it knew exactly how to do it! I had bounce & big curls just like you describe! I'd love to do it again, but that hairdresser guy is nowhere to be found :'{

Yours can't be that bad, is it? I want to see!

I had an eighties perm when I was about 15 ... And it was that bad that it actually made my hair curl for real leaving me with a natural wave now.. Lol ... Must have been more traumatic than I realised .xxx
Love the blanket... That's very reasonably priced... You'd struggle to get the yarn over here for that price... Wool is so expensive here in England... Oh and I just bought your union jack cushion pattern... It's lovely ... Can't wait to have a go at making it... Hope I'm clever enough to do it! Xxx

Oh, Michelle- you had me in stitches! I'm sure it looks very nice... if worse comes to worse, at least you have a lovely face! I had one of the frizzy "big hair" perms with an asymmetrical cut in the 80's and loved it at the time. Now that I look back, I laugh a bit. Was my hair really THAT big? And then the perm solution was so harsh on my fine, thin hair and scalp that I started to get sore spots on my scalp. It WILL get better. Just use lots of conditioner (I used to use this spray conditioner in the states that had a bunch of things in it that managed to calm the curl- but it also eliminated the perm after a few uses. What to do? Thanks for the laugh, and by the way,the blanket is gorgeous! :)

and by the way, michelle... now my hair is very thinned out and I feel like I'm going losing hair and starting to bald (this at age 42!). Perhaps it was the perms from the 80's that did me in... lol!

Well you could always turn your 80's perm into dreadlocks ;-)

First of all, the lovely pictures, the gorgeous blanket and bunting. I gasped.

80s perm. Honestly have no comment. My hair is so curly and frizzy the perm may do it some good lol.

Lovely blanket!!! I'm so glad you're back, I missed your blog entries. Ahhhhh, the perm. Thanks for the warning! I dream of one of those loose wavy hairdos and have often thought, 'hmmm, maybe a relaxed perm would do it'. Clearly not!

Hey Michelle, I love your gorgeous blanket, so bright and Springlike and your sweet little caravan..........

Perms, I've had a few of them in my time. I used to dream about having long straight hair that I could brush and brush and brush and when I woke up.........
I'm sure your perm will soften and be just what you were wanting all along.
Not sure why but for some reason I thought you were based in the UK!! Obviously, I never, ever checked out 'About Me'.....

Hope you are enjoying Spring in your neck of the woods.

Michelle, I did the same thing a couple of years ago! It finally looked great about six months later and now it is still in at the ends and I love it. Yours will be fine soon enough. :)

Caz from Never Knew :)

PS Leave-in conditioning treatments will be a great help in bring out the curl and reduce the frizz (more than mousee will). I have a product that works wonders for me - email me if you like and I will give you details. x
