I decided after returning home with yet another pile of
plastic bags...
That it was about time I started to think about recycling.
Now I do normally recycle my plastic bags
but not quite
like this...
After reading a few tutorials I started to make some "plastic yarn"...
Which was very easy.
I did workout very quickly that you need a larger hook
to make the crocheting easier.
I used a size 10mm.
and before too long I had a recycled plastic bag, bag.
complete with a bit of plastic flower bling...
So why not give it a go,
at least it will cost you nothing...
so clever!!!!
ReplyDeletethank you, xxxx Ale
Its quite different to crocheting wool isn't it!? I've made a crochet tea cup out of plastic bags for an exhibition - turned out way better than I thought it would! love it!!
ReplyDeleteBravissima, grazie !
ReplyDeleteI've also done some plastic bag crocheting. I made large tote bag for a friend to use to take things to the beach. It did turn out very well, and was easy once I got comfortable with the "tension" of the plastic strips.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great way to re-use plastic.

Brave girl you! I have a recurring sore elbow after trying that - but must admit that I was not crochet-fit back then. I have since started saving green plastic bags again...maybe I'll give another try...
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea, a friend of mine makes these too but by knitting the plastic yarn instead. I've been upcycling old tin cans into fabric covered, storage pots, love a bit of thrifty eco crafting.

What a great project Michelle, and of course, waterproof too! I was wondering - is it a bit tricky joining the bags together?
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely interesting blog! Joy x

This is SO cool! I love crafts that involve recycling in a not-completely-obvious way. Do you use it in real life?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see you and some of your work on Kollabora, the crafting and DIY community. I always want to be friends with people whose taste is cute and green at the same time.
