Grandma All Square Tutorial

Grandma All Square...

This tutorial is using a favorite of mine
The Grandma All Round pattern...
I have used the first 3 rounds and added 2 rows
as a boarder to make it into a square...
It is a perfect way to use as many scraps of wool you have
and I haven't really thought about following any colour combo
apart from the white boarder...
Do try to buy your boarder wool in one go though
as I was stuck with a wrong dye lot which was totally out of whack
with the one I had and only managed to get back to the shop
and find 2 balls that were the same...
I will remember this in future!!!

Here is the Tutorial...

8 ply
and size 3.5 hook...
English crochet terms used throughout,
America abbreviations are in brackets...

Starting round 1...

I have taken a few extra shots for this colour change
just to help those of you who are new to it...

Starting round 2...

Starting round 3...

Starting round 4...

Starting round 5...

Now that your first motif is finished...
All the other motifs will be added as you go to this and others...
I have taken pictures of the joining process below...
and will try to explain as I go...

Below is the first picture showing joining a motif to two sides...
You motifs will be joined either to one side or two sides
depending on where the placement is...
but these pictures should give you the general idea...

You will start your last row as normal until you get to the second corner...
Instead of doing 3 chain...
you will do 1 chain, 1 dc(sc) into the corner on the motif you are attaching to
1 chain...and continue on with you 3 trebles(dc) as normal...

You will not do the next 1 chain
but 1 dc(sc) in the next space of your attaching motif...

Continue with you 3 trebles(dc) in next "normal "space...
and miss the 1 chain...and 1 dc(sc) in next attaching motif space...

Continue in this way till the next corner...
do the 3 trebles(dc) into the "normal"space...
miss the 3 chain and 1 chain, 1 dc(sc) in attaching corner,1 chain instead...
and continue finishing the 3 trebles(dc) as normal...

I do hope the pictures are helping!!!

Continue in this way...

Attach last corner the same as the others above...

As you finish the attaching follow the pattern as normal...
Now including the 1 chain in between...

Join to end with a slip stitch...
Cut and sew in ends...

Now you have the making of your Grandma All Square rug...
A work in progress for many a quiet night...

If you are feeling like sharing please add your pictures to the flickr group...
Or drop me a line with you post details etc...
And remember my tutorial are free to use as you like...
and that included selling your finished items...
I can only imagine what you can come up with using this pattern...
Grandma pillow, throws, scarfs and ha even curtains...
Happy crocheting my dears...

New project and Mr Vintage home

Mr Vintage arrived home this Easter weekend...
I little worse for wear as the trip was rather shaky and he doesn't cope with too much stress these days...Seeing as though most of the parts that were holding him together had to be removed because of wood rot...But I am sure he is happy to be back with us...

Working on a few projects...converting my Grandma All Round pattern once again...Yes a tutorial will be out on this one rather soon...

and loving that my new found op shop outfit matches my Dottieangel bag perfectly...I just love when a thrifty shopping trip turns out so well...
I even managed to find a pair of skinny jeans that were brand new...
How good is that...

I do hope everyone's holiday was just lovely and full of family, friends and the occasional chocolate bunny...Yum!!!

Bright and early this morning...
"Daisy" and I set about drawing the "Giveaway My Dearies"

many a chocolate cake had it's humble beginnings
in just this way...
And today would be no different...
Sure as whisks beat eggs,
a winner was whipped into the loops quick smart...

Hooked on Hangers

I just finished a few more "happy hangers"
and this time I did manage the 13 shells...
I love them...
They are my new favorite thing....
Can't you tell...

For a tutorial of the "utmost"...
Head on over to a peachy perfect tutorial
with the ever delightful Dottieangel and her crocheting "what not" ways...
Just reading the tutorial is half the fun of making these pretties!!!

Below is a little flickr upload I did on the day after
posting my giveaway...
I hope the picture and words express how I feel about
the amazing response and well wishes I have
had from everyone...
I will be closing the giveaway very soon...
As I think I will need some time to write out everyone's name
on Crispy white paper...
I will pop a little edit at the end of the giveaway post to let everyone know
when it is closed...
and the very best luck to all my sweet dearies...

I awoke this morning...oh so early...
at 7 am...to start the usual...

packing lunches and organizing children...
Once they were heading out the door I turned the computer on

and sat down to check my inbox from my post...
Words can not even describe the overwhelming feeling that washed over me...
I floated around in a daze too emotional and shocked to say much at all...
So I thought pictures would help convey how it made me feel...
This is me this morning

wishing I could just say more
and talk to you all personally
about how sweet you are ,
you make me want to dress in something pretty
and crochet another Grandma cushion...
If that makes sense.
I love reading all your dear comments...
THANK YOU!!!

Grandma's Garden Cushion

After staying up half the night
even thou I said I wouldn't...
I finished most of the back
of my new Grandma's garden cushion...

and during the day I powered on and managed to finish it...
and I think it is my new most favorite thing...
Well until I finish the next one I have just started that is...

I love my grandma's garden,
it's full of such delights.
With rows and rows of flowers,
bursting with all their might.

So back to the hook and yarn I go...
and I will see you my dears
when I have finished another...
Stay well...
and full of blooming happiness...
And if you are out in the garden this week,
pick some pretty flowers for yourself
to brighten up your day...

Grandma's Garden

I made this up by accident
As I was trying to convert my grandma petal brooch into a granny square...
But...
my flowers have 6 petals and I needed 8
to convert to 4 spaces at the back to continue with the granny square...
Now doing that many petals has a tendency to be way too wavy...
So after many attempts
I just thought I would go with the 8 petals
and see what happens...
And this is what happened...
A very wiggly center!!!
Cool!!!

After starting one I couldn't stop...
and next minute I had enough to make into a very
pretty cushion...

Just need to start the back...

We maybe tomorrow that is...
It is getting rather late
and us crocheters need our sleep...
Well sometimes!!!

Grandma Twinkle cards
are a great way to brighten up any ones day...
Why not make some for a special friend
or sweet deary for their birthday...

Not only are you giving them a card but also a gift...

If they untie the Grandma Twinkle...
They can use it for something
Fun...

Just to make their life a little bit brighter...

Grandma Loves Autumn

I am lashing out with this Grandma Love cushion
and making it from pure wool...
I think this is a lovely colour combo for the start of Autumn.

I am spending most of my time in the yard at the moment and not enough time cleaning house and crocheting...
But it really is a great time to be outside...
As I am sure too quickly the weather will change and I will have plenty of time to snuggle in front of the fuel stove and crochet and maybe a bit of cleaning...only if I run out of wool that is...
I do hope your start to Autumn or Spring has been just lovely
and filled with the plenty of fresh air and sunshine...

Grandma Twilight Garland Tutorial

Grandma Twilight Garland...

I have used some favorites to make up this garland...
Grandma Twinkles...
and
Grandma All Round...
With just a slight variation...

I have put instructions of the colour changes needed
at the bottom of each one...
and started my pictures right to left
as when they are joined together you will start from that side...

Grandma Twilight 1...

using Grandma All Round Pattern...
Cream for first three rounds...
no need to do the scalloped edge!!!
just DC(SC) around edge...
I have mine in Blue...

Grandma Twilight 2...

using
Grandma Twinkle
in Blue...
One round extra in DC(SC)
using Cream...

Grandma Twilight 3...

Colour changing is very tricky for this and the other colour moons
But if you take your time and check back at the picture
I know you will be able to work it out...
If you want, try finishing the easy ones first and come back to these...

using Grandma All Round Pattern...
Start first round in Blue, continue
with Blue for start of next row,
join and sl st across to next space
3 ch, 2 treble(dc) in this first space.(so you only have a half)
1 ch,3 treble,1 ch,3 treble in next space.
1 ch,3 treble,1 ch,3 treble in next space.
1 ch,3 treble in next space...join Cream in next 1 ch...

I have mine in Cream...

Grandma Twilight 4...

using
Grandma Twinkle
in Cream...
One round extra in DC(SC)
using Blue...

Grandma Twilight 5...

using Grandma All Round Pattern...
You will need to look at picture very closely for the colour changes...
I haven't written the instructions for this as
I think it could sound too confusing...it's much easier to
go slowly and just make the colours half and half...

no need to do the scalloped edge!!!
just DC(SC) around edge...
I have mine in cream and blue...

Grandma Twilight 6...

using
Grandma Twinkle
in Blue...
One round extra in DC(SC)
using Cream...

Grandma Twilight 7...

using Grandma All Round Pattern...
Start first round in Cream, continue
with cream for start of next row,
join and sl st across to next space
3 ch, 2 treble(dc) in this first space.(so you only have a half).

1 ch,3 treble,1 ch,3 treble in next space.
1 ch,3 treble in next space...join BLUE in next 1 ch...
3 treble...( this will be the two colours you see in the space)
continue with Blue
to end of second row, join sl st across to next space...
3 ch, 3 treble in next space, 1ch, 3 treble in next space...
change to Cream in next 1 ch...
continue around in cream for 3 spaces...
Change to Blue for next chain, and continue around to end...
no need to do the scalloped edge!!!
just DC(SC) around edge...

I have join my garland with a row of chains...
20 Chain join with a sl st...(for loop to hang)
25 chain join first moon...
25 chain join next...extra...
at end finish by doing a 20 chain loop...
and hang your Twilight garland up for all to see...

To mark the occasion...

I think it was beautiful that our last friday night running our hotel a rainbow appeared in all it's glory to mark the occasion...
It was a sad farewell and very emotional for all...
But I think we will be ok if this is any sign of what is to come...

My dear friends
I will wipe the tears away and be back on track very soon...
Thank you all so much for understanding...

Inside River Cottage

I seem to be slowly making progress...
One wall at a time...
While wrapping things up at the pub has been hard...
At least coming home to this makes it all worth it...

Will have some lovely small tutorials coming out soon with really easy projects for all to enjoy...
Now I just need to get of that comfy couch and get them done...
