Grandma Potholder Tutorial Part 2...

Oh a ruffling we shall go...
In this project we have four rows of ruffles
as I mentioned in part 1...

The ruffles need a base to be crocheted onto
and the trebles(dc) sit sticking up on these base rows...
This seems to be very hard to photograph but I do hope you can follow...
To do these ruffles you need to hold your work and
maneuver around the chain loops quite a bit...
Sometimes it is easier to do a group of trebles on the chain loop
then put your work flat so you can see where the next group
has to go...

You work in a zig-zap pattern up and down the chains...
and jump over the dc(sc) that you made in the row above or below...
you might think this leaves gaps...but it really doesn't...
You will have a nice ruffle when you are finished...

Now if you find that the amount of trebles on each sections is
to crammed only do 4 trebles(dc)...
If you have to much room you can add a treble(dc)...
I like to do 5 but that is my tension...
and don't forget to start each row by doing a
slip stitch and 3 chain...this is your first treble(dc)...

If you find that the pictures for one of the rows
hard to understand just remember all the ruffles are done in the same way...
So going down the page and finding a clearer picture could help...
So without further hype here goes...

PS... just had to do some pink fluro pointers!!!

The 3 chain is your first treble(dc)
to start all the ruffles...

To go up the other side you will need to maneuver word around again...
and so forth...

First ruffle finished...
Sorry that that round of yarn matched the foundation...
The next colour could help...

Second round finished...

Third round finished...

After looking through these pics I do hope you can follow...
I think maybe I should have added some more?
Basically the ruffle go on the first, third, fifth, and seven row...
of the foundation...

Now with the move I have gone and lost the piece of paper
with what I wrote down the instructions on so I am winging it a bit but
I think it is right...
You can omit this if you want but it is fairly easy...

Chain 6.Join with a slip stitch.
Round 1...3 chain,15 treble(dc) into circle.join with a slip stitch.

Round 2...3 chain,1 treble(dc) in to same stitch,
1 treble(dc)in next,2 trebles(dc) in next...
continue row with 1 then 2 treble(dc).
join round with a slip stitch at end.

Round 3...3 chain,1 treble(dc) in same stitch,
1 treble(dc) in next, 2 trebles(dc) in next...
continue row with 1 then 2 trebles(dc).
join round with a slip stitch.

Round 4...Same as last row...

Round 5...Same as last row...

Round 6...3 chain,1 treble(dc) in next,1 treble only
in all to end. Join with a slip stitch...

Round 7...Now this row was a tad hard to remember
so forgive me if I am out...
3 chain,1 treble(dc) in base of this stitch,
1 treble(dc) in next two,2 treble(dc) in next,
follow around 1 treble(dc)-1 treble(dc)-2 treble(dc).
join with a slip stitch to end...

Last row...1 chain 1 dc(sc) in same stitch,3 chain,
miss 2 stitches,1 dc(sc) in next. Continue around
with 3 chain,miss 2 stitches,1 dc(sc) in next...

this row is a series of chain loops
I am crossing fingers that this is right...
There should have be 36 but I ended up with 34...
now with the loops I know I was 2 short...
so I just eased these in when I did my dc(sc) around the edge...
Oh well even I get thing wrong...

Wrong side(WS) of main ruffles and Wrong side (WS)
of base are put together...

Yeah it's finished and hopefully looking just perfectly ruffly
and ready to be hung up as a decoartive addition to your other potholders
or maybe it will be a practical potholder and be used on your table...
Whatever the purpose I am sure you will have it for years to come
and be part of your Grandma collection...

Grandma Potholder Tutorial...

This tutorial will be in two parts...
Just to spread out the amount of pictures
and to give you a bit of time to work through it...

The potholder has a foundation...
This is what you will add your ruffles too...

It is very easy as it is made up of chains and dc(sc)
and the very odd Treble(dc) here and there...

Your ruffles will be crocheted on in Part 2...
I have a back to my potholder as well
but I will be just giving written instructions for this

as some might fine it easy to omit
and just have it without one...

I have used some gorgeous yarn for this project...
Debbie Stoller by Stitch Nation
I am using
Bamboo Ewe...
and
Full-o-Sheep
Which would be a 8ply...
and a 3.5mm crochet hook...
All instructions are in English crochet and
American convertions are in Brackets( )...
There are lots of pictures and if I need to I will add some notes below
if the step needs further clarifying...
I do hope you give it a try as ruffles are so gorgeous!!!

Now this first group of dc(sc) I have not called a round...
It is more a starting point to your first round...
The first round is below...

The last treble(dc) is so you start your next round
at the top of the loop...not the bottom...
First Round finished...

Second Round finished...

This last step is so you start your next round at the top of the loop...

Third Round finished...

This round was a bit hard to see
but it is just the same as the second round...

Four Row Finished...

This round we are doing one big loop
two loops close together..
Like below...

Just to explain this step again...
3 chain then 1 treble(dc) in the last dc(sc)
This is so you start your next round at the top of the loop...

Fifth Round Finished...

This round is the same as the second and fourth...

Sixth Round Finished...

This round is the same as the
Fifth...

Seventh Round finished...

This last row is the same as the previous round 2,4,6...

Eighth Round Finished...

Just make a loop to hang your potholder from...
about 12 chain or so...
Now the base is finished...
Yeah!!!
You did it...I knew you could...
Now in the next tutorial
the ruffles will be added...
They will go over the
first round
third round
fifth round
and seventh round...
You will have four lovely ruffles in total...

Grandma's Gone Potty

Grandma Potholder...

This is my new ruffled potholder...
I will be putting up a tutorial on this very soon...
I have had it finished before the move
but now I just have to locate all the pieces of
paper with the instructions scribbled down...

It will be a very long tutorial and I might need to put it as two posts
as I really wanted to do it step by step for all the new
beginner crocheters to enjoy...
It might look complicated but really I will be making the steps very
clear and easy...

I have used the beautiful yarn from Debbie Stollers collection
which was just so lovely to use...
and amazing colours...

So please stay tuned
with hook at the ready...

and I hope I will have everyone going quite potty
over this one...

Nointernetitis

Dear Dear Friends...
Oh how I have missed you all so much...
I have, you see been suffering from nointernetitis
for some 3 weeks...
yes no modem...
no server...
no e-mails...
yes that last one was hard to bare...
But I have it back...
the cloud has been lifted
and I am back online!!!


so relieved this wasn't permanent...
I never realized until now the affects of rural living until
I needed to move and reconnect...
Yes here in the pretty,quaint and all so rural country town
one has to wait not 1 or 2 but over 3 weeks
before begin re-connected...
Hmmmmm...
But it all doesn't matter now...
As I am here online and chatting to you once more...
Thank you all for your sweet e-mails wondering about my
whereabouts...
I am now moved into River Cottage...


Very disorganized and very cluttered
with more boxes than I think to count...
But I am in...
And loving my new abode...

Stitch Nation Adorable

A short time ago I received a very sweet
e-mail asking if I would like to try out some yarn...
Now I am always I tad unsure about e-mails offering me things
so I did a bit of research before I decided to just
give my address out...
What I found was a very beautiful range of yarn
and gorgeous pictures and patterns...
So I thought why not...
And then my package arrive...
Now to all my dear friends out there
it maybe time to hold your breath...
And now let out a Ahhhh!!!

This adorable box arrived and I can't keep my hands off it...

Oh I just want to frame them...

After many hours...looking...reading...
and well just feeling....
I just wanted to crocheter my little heart out...
But not before I managed a few pics for posterity...

What a year!!!
So many firsts...
So many projects...
So many hours of crocheting...
and a lovely bunch of bloggers to share it all with...

Thank you all for commenting,
e-mailing and bookmarking my little space...
I am so excited to start the new year
and so thrilled you will all be there with me along the way...

While the moving process is taking longer
than first expected it will be really exciting when I
get in and start some great crafty projects to brighten
it all up...

Oh got to love a doily!!!
Turn your Grandma Twinkles into a
6 point star...
Easy...
Start with 6 chains at beginning...
and make 6 groups instead of 5 for the first row...It may seem a tad gathered for the first and second row but this will flatten out in the last row...
and I didn't use my edit for the last row of these twinkles...
Follow pattern as per instructions taking into account the extra group and
wow you now have a 6 point star to join to more and more and more...
This one I have made from fine cotton...
But it does still work for wool etc...
You could even make a blanket out of them...
Give it as whirl...and don't forget to add them to the Grandma Tutorial Group...
If anyone has any trouble following these instructions I can do a more detailed post...Just ask...It will not be a problem...

Grandma It's Christmas

Below is a photo of my Grandma and my little sister...

Quite a long time ago now...

I wrote this poem to remind me of what it was like
when my Grandma was here
at Christmas...


Grandma It's Christmas...

My grandma loved Christmas
the baked dinners a must
Gathering together
and giving so much
Crackers were pulled
party hats on heads
Laughing and smiling
at the corny jokes that were said.

Now Christmas without her
has never been the same
We don't have Christmas pudding
as we put her recipe to shame
No cooking over a hot stove
it's a Barbie and salad to go
We all seem to be in a rush
with no real place to go.

So grandma if you hear
can we all get a kick up the rear
To put some joy and hope
back in our lives
I know it is asking a-lot
but we are desperately losing the plot
In need of guidance
and good old-fashioned hard love.

But as I fear
with your previous engagements so dear
have you preoccupied with weather and world peace
So maybe sending Santa around
on the prevailing wind bound
as I do believe he got lost this time last year
Or maybe a cold snap or so snow on our doormat
so we slip and kick our own proverbial butt.

But if not that's ok
we will manage all the same
Just know we try our best
even if we make a right mess
We just miss you
and wish it was true
That one more Christmas would be filled
with you love my grandma dear.

A Bit Of Ruffling

I thought I would get a start on some thing that I will be doing a
Tutorial for in the new year...

only I did start this one in triple trebles (treble)
and found it is taking a long time
and a huge amount of wool...
I will end up making this one in my fav yarn
so it will not really matter if it takes me a while...
But I will start one in treble(DC)
for everyone else ,
to make it more manageable and hopefully
less complicated...
I am sure you will all love this pattern as even though it does look
a bit tricky it is very easy...
I just need to make sure the amount of rows and spaces etc
are right and then I will have it out there for all...
So if you would love to do a little Grandma Ruffling
stay turned and it will all happen in the new year...
Along with lots of other
